THE IFBB SA NATIONAL NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS 2010 |

The IFBB SA NATIONAL NOVICE CHAMPS was hosted by IFBB GN in Pretoria on the 1st May 2010 at the Eersterus Sports and Recreation Centre. All Provinces supported this show with strong Provincial Teams, and we were very pleased to see a large number of new faces on the IFBB stage. Though all of the novice athletes were fairly nervous to begin with, we can confirm that the standard was great and the longer they spent on stage, so their confidence grew.
Thanks must go to the chairlady of the Province Ellmari Wroe and her hard working committee for putting on such a well organized event. We also thank the MC - Mr Quan Engelbrecht who did a wonderful job hosting the main show, and of course an enormous thank you must go to all of the sponsors who contributed so generously to enhance the success of the championship. All of the athletes did very well – and we truly hope to see more of them on the IFBB stages around the country. The IFBB has brought back the BIKINI – and this was the first time in a long time that this division was held on an IFBB stage – the ladies were outstanding. The IFBB SA NATIONAL NOVICE BEST POSTER AWARD 2010 went to MICHAEL KURZ (Junior under 18 from IFBB GN), and the IFBB SA NATIONAL NOVICE OVERALL WINNER 2010 went to DYLAN RIDLEY (Seniors over 90kg from IFBB KZN) – well done guys!

REPORT: GAUTENG NORTH NOVICE
17 APRIL 2010: VOORPOS PRIMARY SCHOOL
The Gauteng North Novice Championships was held on 17 April 2010 at Voorpos Primary School. We had a total of 35 athletes, of which 27 were selected to represent our Province at the SA National Novice. We started the show with an opening act by the Oriental dance school, which was quite impressive as is shown in the attached photo. Our MC, Quan Engelbrecht, impressed the crowd again with his witty remarks and the music was handled by Jacques van den Heever. The hall was filled to its full capacity (340 seats). At the start of the show the spectators were informed about the 5 new divisions the IFBB is presenting. Also interesting is that we had a disabled athlete competing in the junior under 21 years/under 75KG category. He was cheered a lot by the crowd. Unfortunately we only had one girl competing in the bikini division, and no athletes competing in the up to/including 65KG. We were lucky to have three body fitness girls; of course all three have been selected for our team. One of our juniors under 18 years is only 15 years old! He was also selected as part of our team. It was quite surprising to see that quite a few athletes really made an effort with their posing routine even though there was no prize for the best poser, which of course was to the crowd’s delight. Our overall winner, Roelof Coertze, is no stranger to the bodybuilding scene, as he competed as a junior at our Provincials in the past, but since this year he is competing as a senior. Seven judges ensured that the best athlete of the day wins, and three trial judges put their skills to the test. The competition was a success and as our MC pointed out: It’s business as usual...
